General Info

Dear John Henry’s Customers,

We want to thank you for being part of our farm family. Your support makes it possible for us to do what we love—raising and providing quality meats for your table.

Over the past month, beef prices have reached all-time highs. Reports from ABC, CBS, and Newsweek confirm that the beef market is experiencing record surges:

  • Ground beef is up 11–12% year-over-year, with average steak prices jumping even higher (ABC News).

  • June saw record highs, with beef averaging $9.26/lb, the most expensive in history.

  • Droughts, shrinking cattle herds, and tariffs on imports are squeezing supply and fueling higher costs (CBS News, Newsweek).

As a small farm, we feel these changes just like you do. We work every day to find ways to absorb costs and stretch value without cutting quality. The rising cost of fuel and seed, all the way down to the daily operation cost have been increased dramatically.  But to keep our doors open and continue serving your families, we must make modest price adjustments that reflect the current market reality.

Here’s our promise to you:

  • We will never compromise on quality—our meats will always meet the standards you trust.

  • We will hold prices as low as possible for as long as possible, adjusting only when absolutely necessary.
  • We are developing a CO-OP with other farms to create a larger, more sustainable source of high quality meats

  • We will always be transparent about why prices change, so you understand it’s the market driving these costs—not us.

We know times are tough, and we’re committed to helping you get the most value from every purchase. By supporting our farm, you’re choosing fresh, local food and keeping your dollars in the community.

Thank you for standing with us through these market challenges. Together, we’ll weather this storm and continue bringing real food to your table.

John Henry’s Meats was founded on a simple yet powerful mission: to provide farm-fresh, ethically raised meats to families in our local community. Our small family farm in Michigan began selling grass-fed beef at local farmers' markets in 2007, but our roots in farming and animal husbandry extend over 50 years. With a deep commitment to quality and customer service, we have grown from a small, local operation into a trusted source of premium meats for customers across the eastern United States. As awareness of factory farming practices has increased, so has the demand for sustainably and humanely raised meats. We are proud to offer an alternative—meat raised the right way, with care, respect, and integrity.

Finding truly pasture-raised, humanely treated meat can be a challenge. Industrial farming dominates the U.S. meat supply, with:

  • 99.9% of chickens
  • 99% of turkeys
  • 95% of pigs
  • 78% of cattle

…being raised on factory farms, often in overcrowded, unnatural environments. Many of these animals never see sunlight, are confined to small spaces, and are routinely given hormones and antibiotics to sustain growth under stressful conditions.

John Henry’s Meats was created to change that.

We provide grass-fed and finished beef that thrives year-round in the fresh air, sunshine, and open pastures of our Michigan farm. Our pastured pork and poultry live as nature intended—outdoors, foraging on carefully selected foliage and rooting in the soil. We never use antibiotics or hormones, ensuring our meats are as pure and natural as they should be.

We also offer something truly unique: your own custom butcher. Every cut is prepared by hand, and we welcome special requests for custom cuts and packaging.

Why settle for standard when you can have meats tailored to your exact preferences?

Standing against factory farming has never been easier.

By choosing John Henry’s Meats, you’re making a difference—supporting sustainable agriculture, humane animal husbandry, and a healthier food system. Our meats not only taste better, but they come from animals raised with care and respect.

Ordering is simple. Browse our website, select your preferred cuts, or explore our curated meat bundles for added convenience.

Shipping Policy

You can expect your order to be shipped within 2-7 business days. This time frame is based on order volume and your delivery location.  You will be notified of your delivery date via email when your order has been packed and is on its way to you.

We ship to most of the United States. We are located in Michigan and can ship to the 1, 2, and 3-day ship zones. The West Coast states and some rural areas have extended shipping times and therefore we cannot ship to all of the continental US. Please contact us to determine if your delivery location is within our shipping zones.

To keep the meat nice and cold, we use a fully recyclable material made from recycled water bottles with gel packs in a heavy-duty cardboard shipper. Customers in our local area can leave out a personal cooler and we will leave the order inside to save on packaging.

We choose the best packaging based on your order. We use a mixture of vacuum-sealed plastic packaging along with the highest quality white freezer paper. On our larger bundles, we prefer to wrap everything in white freezer paper because it protects against freezer burn better than vacuum-sealed packaging.

Unfortunately, our Farm Fresh Eggs do not travel well for shipping. Customers in our local delivery area can order eggs with the rest of their order. Eggs are also available for purchase every weekend at the Royal Oak Farmers’ Market in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Troubleshooting

Our coolers and gel ice packs are designed to keep your meats cold, like a refrigerator, for the entire time your order is in transit. We pack extra ice packs to ensure your meats are still safe even if they are delayed. The meat should be cool to the touch when it arrives. It is okay if the gel packs are not frozen, as long as they are still cold. If you’re still not sure, rely on your nose. Spoiled meat will smell sour and be very sticky to the touch. If the box is damaged or opened in any way please contact us immediately.

Please contact us by phone at (989) 302-3366 or by email at CustomerService@JohnHenrys.net as soon as possible. We always want our customers to be 100% satisfied with everything they receive from us.

When we personally deliver your order, we aim for zero mistakes, but being human, errors can occur. If any items are missing or if there is a mixup, please contact our office right away so we can include your order on the next delivery route.

In cases where your order is shipped via UPS, accidents can happen during transit, leading to damaged boxes. If your box arrives damaged or if the tracking information indicates delivery issues due to damage, UPS will usually reach out to you the same day or the following day to discuss the situation. If you decline the package, the items will be returned to John Henry's, and we will not provide a refund or resend the order to customers who refuse delivery. Rest assured, we take care to pack all orders in insulated cooler boxes with ample ice before dispatching your meats for cases like this. So please always accept your deliveries.

*As long as your meats are cool to the touch, according to USDA laws, they are safe to consume. If your meats arrive warm contact our office immediately to discuss further options. *
